Proudly featuring Cascadia Vehicle Tents, the best rooftop tents in the industry!

What is a vehicle tent?

A vehicle tent is just that – a tent that attaches to your car, truck, or trailer rack (actually, the sky’s the limit on where these will go!) that allows a new and versatile way of camping with low-impact and simplicity.

Setup and take down only takes a matter of minutes. The need to search for that perfect spot to pitch your ground tent is eliminated – camp is simply where you end up, whether it is the campground, the trailhead, hunting camp, a forest road, or even the end of the road.

What are the advantages of having a roof top tent?

  • Fast and easy to set up and take down.
  • Better wind and rain protection than a conventional tent.
  • You are off the ground and away from creepy crawlies such as snakes, spiders, mice, etc.
  • Great for 4 wheel drive vehicles or any vehicle with a roof rack.
  • Better view and ventilation than camping on the ground.
  • Your tent will not collect as much dirt or sand as a conventional ground tent.
  • You do not need a flat spot to set up your tent. Rocks, mud, rain water and snow are no longer a problem.
  • No extra cost for an air mattress, this tent comes with a high density foam mattress.
  • Less expensive than a camper, travel trailer or motorhome and takes up less space!
  • You can leave your roof top tent on all year long so you will always have a campsite wherever and whenever you need one.
  • Extra shade and/or privacy area with the annex/changing room.

How much weight can my roof rack hold?

Generally 100-200 lbs. By law you are allowed 165 lbs going down the highway. When you are parked (static weight) it is a different story.  Read your owner’s manual to get exact weight limit. If you need a rack system or more capacity, any local Thule, Yakima dealer can provide a solution.

Is my roof strong enough to handle the weight of the tent, and occupants?

Cascadia Vehicle Tents are designed to mount simply on your stock rack system or on Thule, Yakima, and other aftermarket crossbars, the same as you would use to carry your bicycles, canoe, kayak or rocket box.

The rack system transfers the weight to the structural parts of your car’s roof. All roof racks carry a dynamic weight rating, to provide guidance on the tested limitations of the rack system when the vehicle is in motion. Most racks carry a maximum 165 pound dynamic rating, which means the rack can support 165 pounds of weight while driving down the road.  A midsized Cascadia Vehicle Tent weighs only 125 pounds, so the rack system can easily handle the weight on most vehicles. When you are occupying to tent, this is a static load”, which is much more gentle and the racks can easily handle this weight. Always check with the manufacturer of your car and of your roof rack to determine the applicable weight limitations as they vary from vehicle to vehicle.

What are the fabrics used on the tents?

Tents are made with the best high-quality poly cotton, rip-stop fabric that is polyurethane coated and water resistant. Providing the best materials for better strength, rigidity, longevity and water resistance.
What is provided with my tent purchase?

All tents come complete with mounting hardware, wrenches,  mattress, PVC travel cover, annex/ changing room (except 48″ Bachelor Standard Pioneer),  ladder, rain fly, and instructions.

How do I care for my roof top tent?

When you first get your CVT Roof Top Tent we recommend that you lightly spray the tent with water including the fly. This will allow the thread and the fabric to swell up and seal holes in your tent from the sewing needle.

When the fabric is sewn together the thread that is used is also expandable poly-cotton and because it has the ability to absorb liquid, when it does it increases in size and fills the holes created by the sewing needle

What can I do to minimize Condensation?

Condensation is the creation of moisture caused by body heat and cold outside temperatures.  You cannot prevent condensation completely but there are a few ways to minimize it.

  • Ventilation is key, keep your vents open and allow as much air flow through the tent as conditions allow.
  • Anti-condensation mats, Using an anti-condensation mat will lift the mattress off the floor of the tent and provide air flow.
  • Try not to bring wet items into the sleeping area of tent.

Can I cook, or put a candle in my tent?

NO! WARNING! DO NOT OPERATE ANYTHING THAT BURNS FUEL IN A TENT: i.e. STOVE, CANDLE, GAS LANTERN OR A PROPANE HEAT BUDDY. Combustion consumes oxygen and can produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, which could lead to serious injury or death. Although most tent materials are treated with a fire retardant they will burn if left in contact with a continuous ignition source and so will you. Also your tent will sweat like crazy! Yes that means condensation! Please be careful and always think before you act.  Also do not set up your tent near a campfire as sparks could melt the fabric.
